La nuova Commissione Europea ha un Commissario per la salute e il benessere degli animali. Si tratta di un momento storico per gli animali che finalmente vedranno le loro istanze portate nei tavoli e nelle discussioni che li concernono. La Commissione ha recepito la richiesta che oltre 300 mila cittadini europei avevano rivolto con la petizione #EUforAnimals. Tra le varie richieste della petizione vi erano leggi fondamentali per la progressiva messa al bando di pratiche di allevamento crudeli, quali la stabulazione fissa, l’uso di recinti individuali per scrofe e le tradizionali gabbie in batteria per la produzione di uova. Grazie a Gaia (promotrice della petizione) e a tutte le associazioni che si battono per migliorare le condizioni di vita degli animali e buon lavoro al nuovo Commissario Oliver Várhelyi.
The new European Commission has a Commissioner for Animal Health and Welfare. This is a historic moment for animals who will finally see their requests at the centre of all the decisions that concern them. The Commission has accepted the request that over 300 thousand European citizens had made with the #EUforAnimals petition. Among the various requests that the petition brought forward there were fundamental laws to progressively ban cruel breeding practices, such as fixed housing, the use of individual pens for sows and traditional battery cages for egg production. Thanks to Gaia (promoter of the petition) and to all the associations that have been actively operated to improve the living conditions of animals and congratulations to the new Commissioner Oliver Várhelyi.
